LEE SUTTON FRONT PAGE NEWS - July 16, 2010
The Lee Sutton Racing team set out on the Southern Nationals Series trail this week, as the two-week mini-series started on Monday, July 12 at the Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat Virginia. Unfortunately, Mother Nature won at Wythe and pushed the series opener to Tuesday evening at the Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina. Lee Sutton finished seventh in his B-Main at Gastonia, which was one spot out of a coveted transfer position into the $3,500 to win main event. On Thursday night, July 15, the Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina played host to another $3,500 to win showdown.
Unfortunately, Lee's 2010 Southern Nationals Series journey would come to an abrupt end during qualifying at Cherokee, as a broken right rear axle tube caused his #L7 entry to flip wildly. Lee escaped injury from the wreck, but his racecar was not so fortunate. He will likely have to take some time off from racing action to make repairs to the only chassis in his stable. The Lee Sutton Racing team was back in Dirt Late Model competition from June 17-19 with the ultra-competitive Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. On Thursday night, the historic Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, Tennessee played host to a $10,000 to win showdown.
